NEC just completed its 2nd session of Operation Strides, an equine-facilitated psychotherapy program for veterans suffering with post-traumatic stress disorder, traumatic brain injury and amputation. A few of the veterans participated in both of these sessions. It was great to watch them enjoy and benefit from the time the interacted with the horses, made new friends and networked with each other to get involved in other community activities for veterans.
NEC’s therapy horses are key to making these sessions a success – the participants all bonded with a horse – got to experience riding and did lots of exercises reflecting issues that are going on in their own lives.
Horses are amazing animals! Veterans are amazing people! No wonder the two beneficially bond so well.
